The BSPS is a premier showing Society which promotes excellence in showing of Show/Show Hunter ponies, Working Hunter/Sports ponies, Intermediates as well as Mountain and Moorland ponies. It has over 3,000 junior and adult members who each belong to one of the 21 regional Areas or the Scottish Branch. Areas organise shows, training days and social events with the help of dedicated committees.

The BSPS runs both a Winter and Summer qualifying series which allows members to qualify for the Winter, Summer and Heritage Championship shows as well as The Royal International Horse Show, Horse of the Year show, The Land Rover Burghley Horse trials and the London International Horse Show.
